URBNSURF Wave Park

A new surfing location in the heart of Greater Sydney – bringing the beach lifestyle inland.

URBNSURF was created to make surfing more accessible, for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds in perfect waves all year round.

OCULUS led the public domain design of this new facility at Sydney Olympic Park, including entry plaza, events spaces, viewing areas, and outdoor lounge spaces. Surrounded by Haslams Creek wetland reserve on all sides, the 3.2 hectare former carpark demanded careful consideration of adjoining ecosystems. Native vegetation references plant communities within the park precinct.

More than just a wave pool, the park offers a range of leisure activities to support the main attraction. In addition to everyday operations, the park caters for a variety of events throughout the year, including both amateur and pro surfing comps, as well as festivals dedicated to music, art, film, food, drink, culture and more. A beach club, restaurant, bar, café and pop-ups will also feature across the expansive site.

This project delivers a major recreational and tourism facility to the Central Sydney region. Due to open in mid-2024, it will be only the second wave generated park ever completed in Australia, after the first URBNSURF opened in Melbourne in 2020.
