Virginia Overell has won the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Victoria’s 2024 Future Leader Graduate Award, which celebrates achievement in design, planning, communications, and research based upon the development of innovative, creative, and practical solutions to landscape architectural challenges.

The jury said "this award recognises Virginia's expanded practice of landscape architecture that draws on her art practice and previous work experience in evolving the discourse of landscape architecture. In addition to her extraordinary breadth of practice experience Virginia has shown a commitment to our industry particularly in cultivating community through her multi-year leadership of AILA Cultivate and the establishment of the collective Second Place. Her continued contribution to the Institute and the broader industry not only raises the public profile of landscape architecture, but positions herself and her collaborators as knowledge leaders, demonstrating the power of design."

We congratulate Virginia on this achievement, for what she brings to OCULUS and broader communities of practice, and we look forward to supporting her burgeoning career.

The award was announced at the 2024 AILA Victoria Awards Gala held on Wurundjeri Country, Melbourne. The Future Leader category was kindly supported by the City of Melbourne.
