Melbourne Design Week: Reimagining Our Living Landscape
Melbourne Design Week, held 15-25 May 2025, is an annual celebration of design comprising of talks, tours, exhibitions, launches, installations, and workshops. The ideas-driven program provides a platform for designers, educators, enthusiasts, and thinkers, to come together to consider how design can be used as a force for good in an increasingly complex and precarious world.
On Thursday 22 May, join OCULUS Director Bob Earl, Associate Professor Claire Farrell (University of Melbourne), Dr Jen Mason (Australian National University), and City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece for a ‘Rewilding Melbourne – reimagining our living landscape’ panel discussion chaired by Communications Collective Director Genevieve Brannigan, hosted by Woods Bagot on Wurundjeri Country.
As Melbourne faces unprecedented climate challenges, our European-inspired urban landscapes are becoming increasingly unsustainable. With predictions suggesting current city trees won't survive rising temperatures, we must urgently rethink our approach to urban nature.
This forward-thinking panel brings together experts and innovators to explore how indigenous plants and traditional land management approaches can transform our cities into resilient, biodiverse environments. The discussion will examine urban interventions and radical new approaches to urban landscaping that could reshape Melbourne's future relationship with nature, creating a meaningful, living connection to Country and recognition of First Nations Culture.
