A luxury spa and resort development in Virginia that protects and enhances the property’s cultural and natural resources.

The Salamander Resort and Spa is located on a 340-acre (138 ha) former horse farm adjacent to the town of Middleburg in Loudoun County, Virginia. The site master plan, developed by OCULUS, sites a 168-room resort and extensive amenities while protecting 252 acres (100 ha) under a conservation easement.

Resort amenities developed under the master plan include an equestrian center with barns, riding ring, paddocks and trails; a 22,000 sq ft (2,045 sqm) spa and wellness center; recreation facilities including tennis, bocce, croquet, a putting green and swimming pools; a kitchen garden with herb, vegetable and cut flower gardens and orchard; and several miles of hiking and riding trails.

The resulting design protects and enhances the property’s cultural and natural resources, creating a unique destination that incorporates sustainable site development strategies with the unique character of the Piedmont region.
