In conjunction with the development of the mixed use buildings that comprise Chevy Chase Center, OCULUS designed hard and soft landscapes for the entire complex that included two new public plazas and retail oriented streetscapes.

Johnston Park Plaza is located on a busy corner site adjacent to the Friendship Heights Metro Station. The plaza design is centered on artist Richard Deutsch’s sculpture Against the Day. Complimented by a spray fountain, the sculpture becomes an interactive element of the landscape, drawing the public into the space. Granite slab seating provides a space for shoppers to rest and for parents to watch children explore the sculpture and fountain.

Farr Park is located mid-block and provides a much more intimate spatial experience. The park also highlights a sculpture by Deutsch and an integrated fountain as well as café tables and chairs that provide flexible seating.
